A brief that came with a growing guest list.

Bringing together Canada's leading Black lawyers, executives, entrepreneurs, and emerging leaders, the CABL Conference & Gala transformed Vancouver's waterfront into a gathering place for connection, celebration, and collective advancement.

Centred on the theme “Celebrating Black Leadership, Building & Sustaining Community,” the multi-day experience combined thought leadership, professional development, networking, and an elegant awards gala honouring excellence within the Black legal community. The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers brought in Mayne Assembly to hold the full picture, from the Pan Pacific Hotel ballroom to the last toast of the night.

We sourced, negotiated, and managed production across the Pan Pacific Hotel's 500-person ballroom, then carried that same level of care through every touchpoint of the guest journey — from the invitation suite through post-event follow-up. Vendor direction spanned catering, florals, AV, entertainment, and security, all coordinated to a single run-of-show we authored and held on the night, cue by cue.

In the lead-up, we managed communications across multiple stakeholder groups, keeping everyone aligned as the plan came together — so that by the time doors opened, every transition had already been decided.

Electrifying, and entirely under control.

Guests arrived at the Pan Pacific expecting a conference reception. What they found instead was a room built for a national community to finally be in one place — Canada's leading Black lawyers, executives, and rising legal minds, gathered under a single theme: celebrating leadership and building the community that sustains it.

The seating chart told its own story. Interest in the gala grew steadily through the lead-up, and what began as a planning document for a few hundred guests kept expanding as more of the community wanted a seat in the room. Holding that growth without losing the intimacy of the evening — reworking the floor plan, the timing, the flow of service — was the quiet work behind the night's ease.

The result was electrifying: a coming together to celebrate brilliant minds and forces in their fields, and the beautiful community built on the West Coast, with leaders travelling in from across North America to be part of it.
