A castle that sets the bar before a single vendor arrives.

Hatley Castle is one of the most storied and visually commanding venues in British Columbia — a Gothic Revival masterpiece built in 1908, set on the grounds of Royal Roads University in Victoria.

For this editorial, Beaucoup D'Amour conceived and led a fully styled fall shoot on location, bringing together a curated team of over a dozen creative vendors to produce imagery worthy of the setting. The goal: a shoot that felt genuinely luxurious — rich autumn tones, old-world grandeur, and the kind of considered detail that makes an editorial feel like a world unto itself. Real Weddings agreed. The shoot was published in their 2019 edition, and has been re-published in other notable wedding publications since.

We led concept development and creative direction for the full shoot, establishing the visual language, colour palette, and editorial story from the ground up, then curated and coordinated a vendor team spanning photography, florals, bridal fashion, jewellery, hair, makeup, linen, décor, and stationery.

On-site at Hatley Castle, we directed production and styling across multiple set-ups and creative vignettes, managing the day's flow and look start to finish. The finished editorial was successfully pitched to and featured in Real Weddings Magazine, 2019.

Richness, considered in every detail.

Hatley Castle doesn't ask you to dress it up. It asks you to meet it. Built in 1908, with Elizabethan interiors, formal Italian gardens, and views across the Juan de Fuca Strait, the castle has a presence that sets the bar before a single vendor arrives. The editorial brief for this shoot started there: not what can we bring to the space, but what does the space call for? The answer was richness — deep autumn tones, velvet and lace, florals that felt gathered rather than arranged, jewellery with weight to it.

Coordinating a creative team of this size — photographers, florists, hair and makeup artists, stylists, linen rental, stationery, lighting — across a single day on location is its own form of production. Every contributor had to understand not just their own piece but how it sat within the whole. That kind of cohesion doesn't happen by accident. It happens when the creative direction is clear from the first call.

The result was an editorial that felt less like a catalogue of vendors and more like a place you'd want to spend an afternoon. Real Weddings saw it the same way. The 2019 feature brought the work to a national audience of couples planning exactly the kind of wedding this shoot was built to inspire.
